1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. And, 40% of women in the Kansas City metro area are NOT getting their annual screening mammograms. When caught early, the survival rate for breast cancer is a staggering 99%.
The Kansas City Police Department, in partnership with the Kansas City Police Officers Memorial Foundation, is proud to bring mobile mammography to the community. The department has partnered with Diagnostic Imaging Centers to bring their mobile 3D mammography coach to the KCPD South Patrol Division, located at 9701 Marion Park Drive. Women will be able to get their yearly, screening mammogram on-site, between 7am-7pm on Friday September 15th.
The 40-foot mobile clinic features an onboard 3D mammography machine that is the latest in low dose mammography screening. It was custom designed with patient comfort and care in mind.
The September 15th event is open to department members and the public. Uninsured women may qualify for a covered mammogram.
See the attached flier for information on scheduling an appointment. For more information, please contact Major Darren Ivey or Captain Justin Kobolt.
Box Breathing is a deep breathing and mindfulness exercise that is simple to use and embraced by military commanders, special forces, professional athletes, business leaders, and yes…law enforcement.
The process is simple:
Step 1: Find a comfortable chair or place to lie down.
Step 2: Inhale for 4 seconds.
Step 3: Hold air in your lungs for 4 seconds.
Step 4: Exhale for 4 seconds, emptying all of the air in your lungs.
Step 5: Hold your lungs empty for 4 seconds.
Step 6: Repeat for five minutes, or as long as is necessary to feel refocused and relaxed.
Below is a brief article discussing the practice and how it can particularly help those in law enforcement. This is a practice that can have a set schedule, but also can be applied at almost anytime when feeling stressed (driving to a call, after an intense situation, sitting at the dispatch console, working through a case file, etc).
